Cory Carone helps businesses and individuals solve difficult legal problems, representing clients in litigation, appeals, and investigations.
Cory’s litigation practice focuses on commercial contract disputes, business and toxic torts, real property disputes, and environmental contamination claims. He also specializes in First Amendment issues, particularly related to defamation claims, freedom of the press, public protests, and congressional and legislative redistricting. In his appellate practice, Cory has represented clients in state and federal appellate courts across the country, including the United States Supreme Court. But he focuses on appeals before the Idaho Supreme Court and the Ninth Circuit. He, for example, has worked on several original actions before the Idaho Supreme Court addressing pressing constitutional issues related to ballot initiatives, legislative redistricting, and freedom of the press. In his investigations practice, Cory assists companies and boards of directors with government and internal investigations. He has helped clients respond to investigative demands from the DOJ, SEC, and state regulatory agencies. He has also led internal investigations, particularly related to alleged workplace misconduct.
Before joining Stoel Rives, Cory was a Deputy Attorney General for the State of Idaho and an associate with Jones Day. He also clerked for the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
