Stoel Rives LLP today announced that 121 of its attorneys were selected by their peers for inclusion in the 2025 edition of The Best Lawyers in America® directory, including more than half of the firm’s partners. Additionally, 44 attorneys were named to Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch® in America rankings. Eleven attorneys were also named to Best Lawyers’ “Lawyer of the Year” list.

Four recent Supreme Court decisions significantly curtail federal agency authority and expand judicial oversight. These rulings could lead to increased regulatory challenges and uncertainty for businesses, while offering new avenues to contest agency actions.

The decision by SCOTUS on June 28, 2024, in Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, reads simply: “The Administrative Procedure Act requires courts to exercise their independent judgment in deciding whether an agency has acted within its statutory authority, and courts may not defer to an agency interpretation of the law simply because a statute is ambiguous; Chevron is overruled.”

Two administrative agencies within the federal government have been busy lately publishing new rules that govern important aspects of employers’ relationships with their employees. 

On March 21, 2024, Governor Tina Kotek signed a bill amending the Oregon Family Leave Act (OFLA) and the Paid Leave Oregon program (PLO), effective July 1, 2024.
