Overview

Natalie Shen is a trial attorney in Stoel Rives’ Litigation group. She has experience managing high-stakes, complex medical malpractice and healthcare litigation from inception through trial. Natalie has drafted comprehensive pleadings, overseen all aspects of discovery, conducted depositions of damages experts, and served as lead associate preparing a nine-figure medical malpractice case for trial. She has argued in Clark, King, and Skagit County Superior Courts on behalf of major Washington hospital systems and has secured multiple summary judgment dismissals for healthcare entities and individual providers facing intricate malpractice claims.

Before joining Stoel Rives, Natalie was an attorney with a regional civil litigation law firm. While attending law school, she was a judicial extern to Judge Richard Jones of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington; a law clerk for the Washington State Attorney General, Complex Litigation; a law clerk with MultiCare Health System; and a law clerk in the United States Attorney’s Office, Western District of Washington.

Experience

  • Obtained a dismissal of all claims against a Seattle fertility clinic, which included claims of medical and common law negligence but also a Washington Consumer Protection Act claim, a Washington data disclosure claim under RCW 19.255 et seq., and breach of contract.
  • Represented a large Washington hospital system in multiple guardianship trials, including a jury trial in Clallam County and a bench trial in King County to appoint guardians for vulnerable adults.
  • Successfully defended a healthcare provider in federal court against claims of medical negligence and lack of informed consent.
