Chad Marriott serves as counsel to sponsors, owners, and investors, as well as commercial and industrial customers, in the development, sale, acquisition, and financing of renewable and thermal energy projects throughout the United States. His breadth of experience in finance, M&A, and state and federal utility regulation keeps him actively engaged as a member of Stoel Rives’ Energy Development team.
In the past few years, Chad has served as sponsor’s counsel for the negotiation of $1.6 billion in tax equity financing for more than 1.5 GW of wind projects from North Dakota to Texas, in addition to separate equity investments in more than 900 MW. In addition, Chad has negotiated the tax equity financing for a 100 MWac portfolio of solar PV projects and acted as primary federal energy regulatory counsel for the tax equity and back-leverage debt financing of more than 350 MWac in the Southwest, Southeast, and Northeast regions.
Prior to joining Stoel Rives, Chad was a consultant with Pacific Energy Ventures, LLC where he advised on siting and regulatory issues related to wave- and tidal-energy projects and contributed to the Siting Methodologies for Hydrokinetics handbook published on behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy in 2009. He also served as a legal intern for the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform in Washington, D.C. and as a law clerk for the U.S. Department of Justice, Environment & Natural Resources Division in Sacramento.
