About the Stoel Rives 1L Inclusion Fellowship

At Stoel Rives, our people—and their varied experiences, perspectives, and talents—are our greatest strength. We cultivate an inclusive environment where professionals from all backgrounds can collaborate boldly and thrive in their careers. 

For the summer of 2026, we are excited to offer two 1L Inclusion Fellowships, one for a student in our Portland, OR, office and one for a student in our Seattle, WA office. Fellows will receive a paid 1L summer associate position and a $15,000 academic scholarship for their 2L year.

What We're Looking For

  1. Good standing as a first-year law student at an ABA-accredited law school.
  2. Unique experiences and perspectives not commonly represented in our law firm or in our legal communities and which demonstrate adaptability, resilience, and cultural fluency. These qualities strengthen our workplace culture, help us better serve our clients, and advance our business objectives.
  3. Leadership in advancing diversity, inclusion, and/or accessibility in your community, whether local, virtual, or otherwise.
  4. A record of academic achievement, excellent writing and interpersonal skills, leadership, and community involvement.
  5. Commitment to starting your legal career as a practicing attorney in either Portland, OR, or Seattle, WA.

What to Share With Us

  1. A current resume.
  2. Transcripts for all degrees (completed and in-progress). If your law school grades have not yet been released, please upload a placeholder document in lieu of a transcript, which states: “Law school transcript not yet available. Grades pending release in early January.” We ask you to update us with your official law school transcript once grades are available.
  3. A personal statement of 500 words or less sharing your unique experiences or perspective that might not be commonly represented in our law firm or in our legal community and which demonstrate adaptability, resilience, and/or cultural fluency.
  4. A brief cover letter or statement sharing why you are interested in Stoel Rives and the office location to which you are applying. Alternatively, this information can be the first paragraph in your personal statement, separate from the above word count.
  5. A writing sample that has not been substantially edited by others and is 5 to 8 pages double spaced. A legal writing sample is preferred but not required.

  1. The application period is now open, and submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis in November and December.
  2. If you wish to be considered for more than one Stoel 1L Inclusion Fellowship, please apply for each office of interest. All materials should be uploaded in PDF format.
