We offer the following professional development training programs to enhance our attorneys’ skills and provide them with the resources to have a successful career at Stoel Rives.
Summer Associate Training Series
This virtual series equips summer associates with the tools and knowledge to thrive at Stoel Rives. The program covers firm culture, expectations, and essential skills for professional success, helping participants build a strong foundation for their legal careers.
Associate Academies
Stoel Rives offers a progressive series of training programs designed to support associate development at every stage:
- Level 1 Academy: Aimed at early-career associates, this program focuses on legal writing, professional expectations, and exposure to firm leadership and subject-matter experts.
- Level 2 Academy: Mid-level associates participate in training that builds advanced writing and presentation skills while introducing key leadership concepts. The program emphasizes communication, collaboration, and relationship-building across the firm.
- Level 3 Academy: Designed for more experienced associates and Of Counsel, this program addresses leadership, business development, and practice management. Sessions also provide transparency around the firm’s partnership admissions process.
New Partner Orientation
Newly promoted partners participate in a two-part orientation that covers key aspects of firm leadership, including compensation, benefits, and retirement planning. The program also includes targeted training on leadership, management, and business development to support long-term success in the partnership.
Interview Feedback Program
This program offers select senior associates and Of Counsel individualized feedback on their readiness for partnership. Following a review of submitted materials, participants complete an interview with firm leaders and receive written feedback outlining strengths and development opportunities.
Path to Partnership Program
Offered to a select cohort of senior associates and Of Counsel, this three-part program focuses on developing partner-level business development skills. Conducted in collaboration with GrowthPlay’s Holly Barocio, it combines small-group workshops and one-on-one coaching to prepare participants for the next stage in their careers.
Trial Skills Training
Litigation associates participate in a mock trial experience designed to enhance courtroom advocacy. Using materials from the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA), this hands-on program allows lawyers to examine witnesses, present arguments, and receive real-time feedback from experienced practitioners.
Strategic Negotiation Training
This interactive program helps associates refine their negotiation skills through advanced techniques, role-playing, and real-world case studies. Training is tailored for both litigation and transactional contexts, emphasizing effective client advocacy and creative problem-solving.
