Samuel E. Cayton

Sam Cayton represents businesses and individuals in complex litigation matters. His practice includes commercial litigation, construction litigation, real estate matters, business torts, trade secret litigation, professional liability matters, and high-exposure and catastrophic personal injury claims. He has experience representing clients through all stages of litigation, including discovery, motion practice, arbitration, mediation, and trial. Sam works closely with clients to develop practical litigation strategies that align with their business objectives while efficiently managing litigation risk.

Prior to joining Stoel Rives, Sam represented corporate and individual clients in state and federal courts and alternative dispute resolution proceedings and regularly advised clients regarding strategy and risk of exposure. He has taken and defended in numerous depositions, drafted dispositive motions and appellate briefs, participated in several trials and arbitrations, and negotiated numerous favorable settlement agreements.

• Secured a temporary restraining order for corporation enjoining a public agency from releasing trade secret information in response to a public record request from client’s competitor.
• Compelled arbitration in a landlord-tenant dispute through contested motion practice and earned award of attorneys’ fees.
• Obtained a defense award for an international logistics corporation in a subrogation matter, including attorneys’ fees.
• Served on a trial team that secured a directed verdict and award of attorneys’ fees for a foreign corporation in a complex RICO lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida.
