Stoel Rives Announces Practice and Industry Group Leadership Changes, New Minneapolis Office Managing Partner

PORTLAND — Stoel Rives, an Am Law 200 firm, today announced several key leadership appointments impacting its Technology & Intellectual Property (TIP) and Energy Development (ENDEV) Practice Groups and Technology Industry Group, as well as a new Office Managing Partner for its Minneapolis location.

Jennifer Spaith Appointed leader of Technology & Intellectual Property (TIP) Practice Group

Jennifer Spaith has been appointed Practice Group Leader (PGL) of the firm’s Technology & Intellectual Property (TIP) Practice Group. Jennifer’s practice includes technology transactions, licensing, IP protection, and strategic counseling for clients ranging from early-stage startups to established global companies. She has particular experience in the software, life sciences, and digital health sectors.

John Pavolotsky Joins Meaghan Nelson as Co-Leader of Technology Industry Group

John Pavolotsky has been named co-leader of the firm’s Technology Industry Group, joining Meaghan Nelson, who began serving in the role earlier this year. Pavolotsky takes over from Steve Lovett, who previously served as co-leader of the group as well as the TIP Practice Group.

John advises clients on complex technology transactions, data privacy and security issues, and regulatory matters involving emerging technologies. His work spans AI, blockchain, SaaS, and enterprise technology platforms.

Meaghan Nelson’s practice focuses on commercial transactions and regulatory compliance, particularly in the technology, renewable energy, and data privacy sectors. She brings a practical, business-minded approach to clients navigating rapidly evolving industries.

Sarah Johnson Phillips Named Leader of Energy Development (ENDEV) Practice Group

Sarah Johnson Phillips has been named the new Practice Group Leader for the firm’s Energy Development (ENDEV) group, succeeding Jennifer Martin, who led the group for six years.
Sarah advises developers, utilities, and investors on the development and financing of renewable energy projects across the U.S., with a focus on wind, solar, and storage. She is recognized for her experience in siting, permitting, and power purchase agreements.

Thomas Braun to Serve as Minneapolis Office Managing Partner

Thomas Braun has been appointed Office Managing Partner for the firm’s Minneapolis office, succeeding Phillips, who moves into the ENDEV leadership role.

Thomas represents clients in a wide range of corporate and transactional matters, with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, private equity, and venture capital. He has deep experience working with companies in the food and agribusiness, manufacturing, and technology sectors.
