Stoel Rives Adds Eric Aaserud in D.C.
Expanding Government Contracts and Corporate Capabilities
Washington, D.C. – Stoel Rives, an AmLaw 200 law firm, today announced that Eric Aaserud has joined the firm’s Washington, D.C., office as Of Counsel in its Corporate Group. Aaserud is a government contracts attorney who advises companies on federal, state, and local procurement strategy, contract performance, and compliance in highly regulated and technology-driven sectors.
“Eric is ideally suited to help Stoel expand our Corporate practice with the addition of deep government contracts experience,” said Steve Boender, chair of Stoel’s Corporate Practice Group. “His strong client relationships and entrepreneurial skills will facilitate the extension of Stoel’s offerings to clients of all sizes and across all industries that contract with federal, state, and local government agencies at a time of significant regulatory change.”
Aaserud has more than 20 years of experience advising companies on government procurement strategy and working with government agencies, including False Claims Act risk mitigation, federal data rights and IP protection, U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Schedule contracts, commercial item determinations, subcontract negotiation, and contract compliance.
He frequently speaks on federal contracting topics at national forums, including the American Bar Association, Federal Circuit Bar Association, National Contract Management Association, and Public Contracting Institute. He has authored numerous articles on government contract issues published by The Federal Lawyer, Law360, The Procurement Lawyer, and Westlaw Today.
He joins Stoel from ELVER Law, a government contracts law boutique he launched in 2023 to provide client-focused counsel to a wide range of public and private companies, from early-stage ventures and small businesses to Fortune 500 corporations. Prior to founding his firm, he was a government contracts attorney at Perkins Coie in D.C. from 2003 to 2023 and previously served as vice president and general counsel for Wood River Technologies, Inc., in Idaho, an internet startup providing government bid intelligence and compliance support to contractors.
“Federal procurement now exceeds $800 billion annually, and state and local procurement represents an even larger market,” said Aaserud. “Tens of thousands of companies, from startups to Fortune 500 enterprises, recognize the opportunities in public contracting, but the most successful understand that participation requires sustained discipline, diligence, and careful attention to detail. I look forward to joining Stoel Rives and collaborating across the firm where government contracting intersects with corporate, regulatory, and litigation issues.”
Aaserud earned his J.D. from Seattle University School of Law and his B.A. in Political Science from Western Washington University.
