Portland, Ore. — Stoel Rives LLP is pleased to announce that land use attorney Sarah Stauffer Curtiss has been elected chair of the Real Estate and Land Use (RELU) Section of the Oregon State Bar. She will lead the section’s executive committee, which oversees services provided to members. Curtiss’s one-year term will begin in January 2020.
Curtiss helps her clients navigate complex permitting processes, understand and comply with environmental and land use laws, and develop creative compliance solutions that enhance business opportunities. She has worked with city and county planning departments throughout Oregon, and regularly represents clients before local governing bodies and the Oregon Land Use Board of Appeals. She represents energy and utility clients on permitting and compliance matters related to project development and expansion through the Oregon Energy Facility Siting Council.
Oregon Super Lawyers® named Curtiss a Rising Star in Land Use/Zoning from 2013 to 2017, and the Portland Business Journal selected her as a Forty Under 40 honoree in 2016. Curtiss received her law degree from Lewis & Clark Law School, master’s degree from the University of Chicago, and undergraduate degree from Pacific Lutheran University.
The RELU Section is comprised of attorneys who practice in the areas of real estate, property, and land use. The section offers services to its members that include opportunities to contribute to the quarterly RELU Digest and attend CLEs on real estate and land use issues. Members may volunteer for subcommittees that monitor real estate- and land use-related bills during the legislative session and testify at the legislature where necessary.
