ExperienceEric Laschever is a partner of the firm practicing in the areas of land use, environmental and hazardous waste law. He focuses on helping private and public clients to secure and defend the federal, state and local land use and environmental permits and approvals needed to implement large infrastructure and other complex projects.
Partner, 1999-2004, head, Land Use Practice Group, 2000-2004, Preston Gates Ellis LLP.
Eric has been an adjunct faculty member at the University of Washington Law School where he taught courses on coastal zone management and ecosystem restoration under hazardous waste clean-up statutes.
Before practicing law, Eric served as Associate Director for Fisheries and the Environment for the Alaska Governor's Office in Washington, D.C.
Representative Work
- Represents coalition of six Washington and Oregon ports in securing and defending necessary federal and state environmental and land use approvals to deepen the Columbia River Navigation Channel.
- Represented the Regional Transit Authority on a variety of land use and natural resource issues, including local zoning, environmental impact statement preparation and Endangered Species Act issues.
- Represented King County, Washington in developing strategies for addressing Endangered Species Act compliance related to wastewater project.
- Represented Bechtel Subsidiary in obtaining state and local environmental and land use approvals needed to construct the second Tacoma Narrows Bridge.
- Represented the Microsoft Corporation in obtaining land use approvals necessary for a new 3,000,000 square foot office campus in Issaquah, Washington.
- Represented the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway on a wide range of land use permitting issues in Washington state. Representation included litigation issues before the Growth Management Hearings Board and in Superior Court.
- Represented Simon Property Group in land use issues related to redeveloping the Northgate Mall in Seattle, Washington. Representation included litigation before the Seattle Hearing Examiner and in Superior Court and the Court of Appeals.

Work included monthly meetings with federal agencies to coordinate ESA Section 7 consultation and successful defense of biological opinion before the Western District Court of Washington.
- Represents Port of Astoria in ESA Section 7 consultation for annual maintenance dredging.
- Part of legal team advising King County regarding possible use of Habitat Conservation Plan for County storm water and waste water programs.
- Part of legal team advising Washington Public Ports Association in commenting on Department of Natural Resources Habitat Conservation Program.
- Helped Long Live the Kings prepare an ESA compliance handbook focused on municipal programs and issues.
- Part of legal team that helped the Port of Portland obtain Federal and State approvals needed for new airport deicing system. Work included review of biological assessment and other work related to successful ESA Section 7 consultation.
- Represented Sound Transit in developing ESA compliance strategy. Work included participating in the Tri-County ESA strategy development.
