Prior to joining Stoel, she was a judicial extern to Judge Danielle J. Forrest of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, Judge Ted Stewart of the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah, and Justice John A. Pearce of the Utah Supreme Court.

Elena is a dual citizen of the U.S. and Spain.
