Overview

Steve Galloway is a trial attorney in the Litigation practice group. His practice focuses on complex civil litigation with an emphasis on health care and commercial finance disputes, as well as contract actions, business torts, civil fraud, and real estate disputes. He represents businesses, individuals, and public entities in state and federal courts, appeals, mediations, and arbitrations.

Steve was a summer associate at Stoel Rives and a student attorney and research assistant at the Tulane Civil Litigation Clinic, New Orleans. He is active in pro bono programs at the federal and state level.

Experience

Complex Commercial Litigation

  • Assistance with successful arbitration defense of medical device manufacturer against contract and tort claims by sales representative.
  • Obtained summary judgment award of more than $7 million on claims of fraud, conversion, and breach of fiduciary duty on behalf of national truck manufacturer.
  • Obtained favorable ruling for pro bono client on appeal of an administrative decision, resulting in reinstatement of Social Security benefits for a disabled child.
  • Worked in cooperation with the FDIC in representing secured lender in commercial finance dispute. Obtained summary judgment award of more than $4 million.
  • Assistance with successful defense of real estate firm from fraud claims of more than $8 million in connection with sale of apartment complex.
  • Obtained summary judgment in federal court for grocery wholesaler who had been sued on an issue of first impression under the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act (PACA).
  • Settled claims against the federal government under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Tax Act of 2009 (ARRA) on behalf of renewable energy developer, resulting in recovery of more than $1.2 million in withheld tax grants.
  • Successfully defended housing authority in district court and on appeal against discrimination claims brought under the Fair Housing Act (FHA).
  • Negotiation of favorable settlement for manufacturer of solar panels in dispute with supplier.
  • Obtained favorable settlement for polymer flooring company against claims of trade secret misappropriation and breach of non-competition agreements.

Health Care Litigation

  • Member of litigation team that successfully defended Oregon managed care organization in a five-day arbitration against breach of contract and fraud claims of more than $3 million.
  • Successfully defended Oregon health care company from claims of Medicare and Medicaid fraud under the False Claims Act.
  • Obtained dismissal of claims against Washington health insurer, which were asserted under new anti-discrimination provision of the Affordable Care Act.
  • Assisted local health clinic in resolving disputes with vendors and consultants.
