Economic Development

Cheap and abundant power, proximity to major export centers and a cool climate that lessens energy use make the Pacific Northwest an enticing location for business growth. Combined with a deep talent pool, the region is attracting industry clusters in e-commerce, computers and software, outdoor recreation and apparel, aerospace, clean technology, and life sciences.

Overview

For companies considering a move to or expansion in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Utah or Washington, state and local incentives can present significant opportunities. But the benefits of tax credits and tax exemptions are tied to complex systems that vary from state to state and even locally. Entering a new business environment also means maneuvering through local real estate and land use laws. And any significant move inevitably calls for good government relations.

We can help you by providing economic development advice in the following core areas:

Government Relations

Certain economic development incentives require support from elected officials and government agencies. We know our local governments, and we help our clients work with state and local public officials to achieve business goals and grow our communities in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Utah or Washington.

Real Estate Acquisition

We assist clients in the negotiation and closing of real estate acquisitions, including the preparation of purchase agreements, conveyancing documents, financing documents, and other related documents. We also have significant experience in commercial leasing transactions, including retail leases, ground leases, build-to-suit leases, office leases, industrial leases and subleases.

Land Use

We regularly represent businesses before local agencies and jurisdictions responsible for regulation and approval of development requests. We have extensive experience with local land use requirements and processes, and related state and federal regulatory requirements including those imposed under the Clean Air and Water Acts, as well as other environmental permitting requirements such as wetland and environmental resource regulation. We have represented clients in the acquisition and listing of state certified "shovel ready" sites.
