Overview
Mark Stevens practices in the Construction & Design section of Stoel Rives’ Real Estate group. Mark’s experience spans mediation and litigation on significant construction and design related matters in state and federal courts, plus arbitration proceedings in domestic and international forums, including the AAA, JAMS, ICC, HKIAC, and ADRIC. Those matters have involved a range of industries, such as manufacturing, power generation, and renewable energy, including battery storage, solar, and wind projects. Mark also provides advice for ongoing construction projects, including mechanic’s liens, claim assessment, and the change order process.
Mark’s pro bono experience includes working with asylum seekers in the immigration process and supporting efforts to combat human trafficking and assist trafficking survivors.
Before joining Stoel Rives, Mark practiced in the complex commercial litigation group for an international law firm, specializing in construction disputes. Prior to becoming an attorney, Mark was a journalist and worked at newspapers in Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.

Experience
- Represented a manufacturer in arbitration over a $70 million contract dispute with a long-term plant services provider.
- Provided representation leading to a favorable settlement of arbitration proceedings on behalf of a Canadian manufacturer against a supplier of battery storage services.
- Represented an international EPC contractor against a civil works subcontractor in an arbitration over the construction of a power plant in Taiwan, resulting in a favorable settlement.
- Advised a design subcontractor on active project disputes with the general contractor responsible for a public works transportation project.
- Represented a chemical manufacturer against the EPC contractor responsible for completing environmental and energy improvements. The parties’ claims included complex jurisdictional and contract termination issues and exceeded $160 million,
- Represented a manufacturer in federal court against a public body, defending against pollution-related claims arising from actions that preceded the manufacturer’s purchase and improvement of property.
- Advised the EPC contractor for multiple solar projects on disputes ranging from supply-chain issues to alleged delays and claims related to negligent construction.
- Represented a well remediation contractor in a state court dispute where the property owner refused to pay, resulting in a favorable settlement for the client.
