About Mark

Mark Bonham serves as co-chair of the firm’s Technology & Life Sciences practice and is located in the Salt Lake City office, where he focuses his practice on providing corporate legal counsel to technology, life sciences, software, internet-based, electronics, venture capital, and investment banking companies and emerging businesses. A member of the Corporate group, Mark is well-known in the Salt Lake City region due to his emerging business and venture capital experience. With a depth of knowledge in financing, licensing, mergers and acquisitions, equity compensation, business strategy, IPOs, SEC reporting, market entry, and exit strategy, Mark has worked with and fosters deep relationships with tech start-ups and emerging businesses.

Mark formerly was a partner with Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where he served corporate law clients for 20 years in California and Utah. He counseled clients in business formation, venture financing, IPO, M&A, licensing, equity compensation, and SEC reporting. He also co-managed a group of 16 lawyers, and at various times served on the Compensation and Investment Committees, co-chaired the Recruiting Committee, and co-chaired the Knowledge Management Committee for that firm. During his tenure at Wilson Sonsini, Mark also spent a period of time managing a team of in-house lawyers as acting general counsel of Octel Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: OCTL, since acquired).

Later, Mark and four other executives formed an emerging business consultancy, SageCreek Partners LLC, which advised technology companies in all stages of business from start-up to growth and succession. He has served as general counsel and chief privacy officer of a leading-edge software company, Sorenson Media, Inc., where he led the legal team in negotiating and closing a multi-million-dollar contract with the world’s largest seller of TVs. Mark also served as a director of SolarWinds, Inc. (NYSE: SWI, since acquired), where he was chairman of its Nominating and Governance Committee and a member of the Audit Committee, and where he developed an innovative director survey and rating methodology.

A magna cum laude graduate and Trustees Scholar of Brigham Young University, Mark earned a juris doctor from Harvard Law School, where he was awarded an Olin Fellowship in Law and Economics. He has been listed in Chambers & Partners USA, has achieved an AV rating with Martindale-Hubbell®, and is listed among the Legal Elite and Utah Super Lawyers®. In addition, he has been awarded Utah Corporate “Lawyer of the Year” and Salt Lake City area Venture Capital Law and M&A “Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers®.

Mark resides in Highland, Utah, with his wife of more than three decades. They are active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for which he recently served a three-year term as president of its Washington Everett Mission. Mark and his wife, Kelly, have five children and seven grandchildren.
