Overview
Julie Miles advises developers, utilities, and companies on environmental compliance at federal, state, and local levels. She has significant experience in project siting and approvals and has defended entitlements in both federal and state courts.
Julie’s litigation background includes defending toxic tort, public nuisance, product liability, and contaminated property claims, as well as handling multidistrict product liability class actions. She also has also represented policyholders in insurance coverage disputes related to environmental liabilities.
In addition to litigation, Julie applies a cross-disciplinary approach to support clients throughout the development process, from evaluating and securing land use entitlements and environmental approvals to advising on environmental aspects of corporate and finance transactions, including environmental, health, and safety (EHS) and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) matters. Her project experience spans desalination facilities, energy transmission, and renewable energy.
Julie counsels clients on a broad range of environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act (CWA), Endangered Species Act (ESA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and others. In California, her expertise extends to the California Coastal Act, California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA), and related tort laws.
Prior to law school, Julie was a legal analyst in the Government Affairs Department of Qualcomm, Inc.
