Overview
Jeff Liao provides clients with strategic guidance on intellectual property management and oversees the prosecution of patent applications. With a background rooted in data science, particularly in data collection, cleansing, analysis, and the application of machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI), Jeff possesses valuable insight into emerging technologies.
Jeff has handled patents involving semiconductors, circuits, telecommunications, mechanical systems, and AI/ML innovations. In addition to patent work, he contributes to intellectual property litigation and regularly drafts and reviews critical legal documents such as privacy policies, terms and conditions, data retention guidelines, and data protection addendums. Whether securing patents or navigating the complexities of prosecution, Jeff is dedicated to supporting clients throughout the entire IP process.
Before joining Stoel Rives was a patent associate at a regional law firm. While attending law school, he was a student attorney with the University of Washington Entrepreneurial Law (Trademark) Clinic, a Rule 9 licensed legal intern with University of Washington Student Legal Services, and a legal summer extern in the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office in Watertown, New York.
