About Dexter

Dexter Pearce is an associate in the firm’s Labor & Employment Group. He represents employers in matters involving labor and employment-related disputes, including wage and hour, ADA, and discrimination issues. He also assists employers in mitigating risks prior to litigation, frequently resolving complaints at the agency level and regularly conducting anti-discrimination and harassment trainings. Dexter is a frequent contributor to the World of Employment blog on a variety of cutting-edge employment issues.

Prior to joining Stoel Rives LLP, Dexter was a summer associate for the firm in 2014 and 2015. While in law school, he was a legal extern for the Raleigh Federal Public Defender’s Office and assisted the Duke University Wrongful Convictions Clinic. Before that, Dexter served as an intern for Oregon State Senator Jeff Merkley, where he assisted the Senator on campaign financing among other things.

  • Obtained partial summary judgment, which drove favorable pretrial settlement for large regional healthcare client in federal failure to accommodate, family leave, and disability discrimination lawsuit.
  • Assisted in obtaining summary judgment for manufacturing client on several claims, including disability discrimination, workers' compensation discrimination, and retaliation, which resulted in a nuisance-value settlement. 
  • Obtained nuisance-value settlement in a $2.75 million lawsuit against a healthcare client that alleged intentional infliction of emotional distress, intentional interference of economic relations, battery, and other claims.
  • Represented restaurant client in gender discrimination, wrongful termination, and intentional infliction of emotional distress lawsuit and successfully obtained a nuisance-value settlement.
  • Successfully defended a complete summary judgment dismissal for a faith-based university in religious discrimination lawsuit at the court of appeal.

Advice and Counsel

  • Successfully defended employers in healthcare, manufacturing, retail, and other industries against numerous agency charges, including the EEOC, BOLI, and other state agencies.
  • Routinely counsels employers on issues related to state and federal disability laws, workplace accommodations, and employee performance management issues.
  • Provides trainings on harassment, discrimination, and implicit bias for employers in various industries.
  • Conducted a large scale investigation into claims of race discrimination and a hostile environment for a faith-based university.
  • Provides guidance to clients on employment-related documents, including advising on employee handbooks, employment agreements, and separation agreements.
