About Chris

Chris Scott is a transactional real estate attorney, and his clients include developers, commercial landlords, tenants and homebuilders. He has extensive experience in preparing and negotiating purchase and sale agreements, assets sales, leases, easements, entity formations, financing documents, loan work-out negotiations, and title and closing documents. Chris also has experience with the formation of condominiums and subdivisions and provides counsel to homeowners’ and condominium owners’ associations. As a former in-house attorney at the nation’s largest publicly-traded homebuilder, Chris helps his clients maneuver through all stages of land acquisition and development.

Before joining Stoel Rives, Chris was Portland Division Counsel for D. R. Horton, Inc., for four years and an attorney at several nationally-recognized law firms for a total of 10 years.

Experience

  • In-house counsel at the largest publicly-traded homebuilder in the United States. Drafted, negotiated and closed dozens of land acquisition contracts totaling over $500,000,000. Oversaw all legal and contractual elements of the land acquisition and development process for the Portland office.
  • Assisted client in successfully acquiring a new-construction apartment tower in the business core of Portland. The transaction included working with the City of Portland to assure compliance with a variety of affordability incentive programs.
  • Prepared for regional land developer numerous easements, covenants and other agreements pertaining to the subdivision and development of raw land.
