Experience

Experience

Before his career in law, Paul was an electrical engineer employed by Hughes Aircraft Company for eight years.  During this time, he worked on the design of analog and digital circuitry for electronic instruments; radar system design, analysis and integration; and wide-band digital satellite communications subsystem design, integration, and performance evaluation.  He was also the staff engineer responsible for the flight hardware design and in-flight operation of the radar signal digital processor of the Pioneer Venus Orbiting Radar Mapper (ORAD).  While a law student, he diagnosed the cause of operational failure of ORAD shortly after insertion orbit around Venus and contributed to a workaround solution that enabled ORAD to successfully complete its intended mission.

Paul is a holder of two patents. The first patent (assigned to Westinghouse Electric Co.) claimed a keyless lock for building access doors.  The second patent (assigned to Hughes Aircraft Co.) claimed a digital-based phase shift keying modulator for satellite communications.

Paul has written for several technical publications, including articles relating to the analysis of modulation techniques and the design of band and amplitude limited digital satellite communications channels.
