Joseph McCarthy, a leading condominium attorney in Washington, was quoted by the Puget Sound Business Journal in an article titled “Gov. Jay Inslee signs bill updating Washington state’s condo law.” The article discusses the recently passed Washington Common Interest Ownership Act, which modernizes and unifies the creation, management and sale of condominiums, planned communities and cooperatives.

“This bill brings all three of them under the same roof,” said McCarthy, who led a group of lawyers who worked 10 years on the legislation. The new law, which is modeled on the Uniform Common Interest Ownership Act, will create dramatic changes in the way planned communities and cooperatives are created and managed. It will govern new communities but can be adopted by existing community associations as well.
