Corporate partner Jason Brauser was quoted in the Portland Business Journal in an article titled “How Portland’s M&A frenzy has rocked local law firms,” published March 2, 2022. The article discusses the growth in M&A activity in Portland, which began in the summer of 2020 and has led to “the hottest M&A market ever,” according to busy M&A attorneys in the city.

M&A attorneys point to a variety of reasons for the increase in transactions — infusions of cash into the economy from COVID relief funds and private equity, low interest rates, and rising share prices, among others. Brauser notes another important driver — demographics.

“We already had a big group of baby boomers getting to that point where they were thinking of succession for their business,” Brauser said. “Initially, when the pandemic started, people were hesitant, but as it’s dragged on, a lot of the folks who were predisposed to sell anyway looked around and said, ‘There’s been so much uncertainty, and it’s such a hot market, now is probably a good time for me to get out.’”
