PBJ Quotes Penny Serrurier on Achieving Greater Diversity at Stoel Rives

In The News
"To serve our clients, we need to recruit and retain the best talent available. If we aren’t attracting diverse talent, we’re not getting the best people. And if our workplace isn’t welcoming to everyone, we’re not going to be able to keep them."

—Penny Serrurier in PBJ article

Stoel Rives Firm Co-Managing Partner Penny Serrurier was quoted in the Portland Business Journal in an article titled “Exclusive: Here are Portland's most diverse law firms.” The article includes a survey of the most diverse Portland law firms and discusses steps the firms are taking to increase their numbers of women and minority attorneys.

Stoel Rives, which came in 10 out of 31 included in the survey, has increased its percentage of women partners from 17 percent in 2006 to 28 percent in 2016, through participation in such programs as the OnRamp Fellowship, a “returnship” program for experienced women lawyers who want to return to the profession after time away, according to Serrurier.

"We also have attempted to educate our employees about hidden bias and how to create an inclusive work environment," she said.
