Stoel Rives attorney Wesley Miliband was quoted in Law360 in an article titled “Drought Makes New Work Rain Down On Calif. Attys.” The article discusses the increase in work seen by attorneys in California with regard to questions over water rights matters and new regulations created by the long-running drought.
Developers have had to contend with how new water restrictions and contracts stemming from water rationing affect their real estate projects, while the entire population of the state has had to meet a 25 percent reduction in water usage mandated by Gov. Jerry Brown earlier in the year.
“We’re seeing a shift in the long-standing system of California water rights, such that there will be much more regulatory administrative oversight that will compel other practitioners outside of the water and environmental context to be aware of their clients’ interests touching water,” said Miliband.
