Stoel Rives LLP congratulates firm client RealWear on its recent award of an investment round of $17 million in a Series A deal with Columbia Ventures Corporation, also a firm client, as lead investor in the round.

RealWear, an augmented reality startup founded in Milpitas in California’s Silicon Valley, opened a location at the Fort Vancouver Artillery Barracks in Vancouver, Wash., in early 2017 and later relocated its headquarters there. The company, which manufactures a helmet-mounted Android computer with attached display and hands-free, voice-controlled user interface that allows workers to remotely operate equipment needed for a job, hopes to eventually raise another $3 million in funding and, by the end of 2018, employ 100 in Vancouver.

Columbia Ventures Corporation is a private investment company with roots in the Northwest’s aluminum industry. After divesting its aluminum assets in the early 2000s, it “has continued to invest in a wide range of strategic, innovative or contrarian opportunities,” including telecom companies in Australia, Europe and the U.S.; a Vancouver software business; a pulp mill in Dayton, Wash.; and a housing development in Texas.

The Stoel Rives deal team was led by Kevin Burnett and included Brie Bridegum.
