Stoel Rives LLP congratulates its client Mainstream Renewable Power on completing financing for the Kangnas and Perdekraal East Wind Farms, located in the Northern and Western Capes of South Africa. The wind farms, which will have a combined capacity of 250MW, represent an investment of approximately $520 million. Construction is expected to start this month.

A consortium led by Mainstream was awarded the contracts for the wind farms by South Africa’s Department of Energy under the fourth round of its Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement  Programme. Since 2011, Mainstream has been awarded a total of 848MW of wind and solar projects under the programme and has completed five wind and solar PV plants with a combined capacity of 600MW.

Mainstream Renewable Power, which was founded in 2008, is an independent global developer of renewable energy whose core business is to develop, finance, construct and operate large-scale, renewable energy projects in emerging markets. The company has projects in development with total capacity of almost 10,000MW and has delivered nearly 700MW into construction and commercial operation.

The Stoel Rives deal team was led by Alan Merkle and Tony Girolami and supported Mainstream with the drafting and negotiation of turbine supply, engineering, procurement and construction, and  service and maintenance agreements for each of the projects.
