Oregon Gov. Kate Brown Appoints Stoel Rives’ Partner Wally Van Valkenburg to Portland State University Board of Trustees
PORTLAND, Ore. – Stoel Rives LLP is pleased to announce that Wally Van Valkenburg has been appointed by Governor Kate Brown to the Portland State University Board of Trustees. The Oregon Senate approved his appointment on Sept. 18.
The Portland State University Board of Trustees is a 15-member volunteer board and is responsible for the governance of the university. Members serve on one of three standing committees, which perform much of the work undertaken by the board. Van Valkenburg will serve as a member of the Finance and Administration Committee.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as a Trustee for PSU,” Van Valkenburg said. “Not only is PSU an economic engine for our region, but it also provides opportunities for success to thousands of students each year, particularly students who come from less advantaged communities.”
A partner in the firm’s Technology and Intellectual Property Group, Van Valkenburg has represented companies in a variety of industries including technology, manufacturing, footwear and apparel, sports and entertainment, health care, gas and electric utilities, retail, educational institutions, trade associations, and wood products.
Van Valkenburg is a current board member and past chair of the Portland State University Foundation Board of Trustees and of Greater Portland, Inc. He previously served as Managing Partner for Stoel Rives’ Portland office and as Chair of the Oregon Business Development Commission.
Van Valkenburg and Dr. Judith Ramaley take over at-large positions on the PSU board and will serve four-year terms. Lisa Sablan and Dr. Yves Labissiere will fill staff and faculty positions, respectively, and serve two-year terms.
