John Pavolotsky, the co-chair of Stoel Rives’ AI, Privacy & Cybersecurity Group and Technology Industry Group, joined Sergio Maldonado on the Masters of Privacy podcast to look at a host of privacy and AI laws enacted recently in California.
Among the bills Pavolotsky discussed are:
- AB566 – The California Opt Me Out Act offers users easy-to-use opt-out preference signals (OOPS) that allow them to automatically communicate their privacy preferences to websites with a web or mobile browser.
- SB361 – Strengthens consumer protections and increases transparency around data brokers who traffic in sensitive personal data, including citizenship status, biometric information, and government-issued ID numbers.
- SB243 – The first law in the U.S. that would require chatbot operators to adopt meaningful safeguards covering interactions with AI chatbots and provide individuals with legal recourse against noncompliant chatbot platform operators.
