ANCHORAGE, Alaska Stoel Rives LLP is pleased to announce that partner Ramona Monroe has received the Alaska Miners Association’s 2018 “Advocate of the Year” award, which recognizes an individual who contributes her time, talent and subject-matter expertise to further the organization’s goals. Monroe, who is helping the association develop a set of proposed amendments to Alaska’s mining law, received the award Nov. 8 at a banquet during the Alaska Miners Association’s 2018 Fall Convention & Trade Show.

“Although Ramona was honored specifically for her work on behalf of the mining industry in negotiations with the state of Alaska to simplify and ease the rules for protecting and preserving mining claims, it was clear from the ovation she received that she has become one of the key players in Alaska’s mining industry,” said Stoel Rives mining attorney Willa Perlmutter. “Everyone with whom we spoke agreed that Ramona’s honor was well-deserved. And one of the best parts of the evening was watching Ramona’s surprise as they called her name; she had absolutely no idea that the award was coming.”

The Anchorage-based Alaska Miners Association is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to encouraging and supporting responsible mineral production in Alaska. The organization tracks political processes to ensure that lands are kept available for mineral exploration and development and works to make restrictions on land and water use economically realistic. It also works to increase public awareness of the mineral industry and its economic implications for Alaska and the nation.

With deep experience in energy and infrastructure law, Monroe has spent more than 20 years representing natural resource companies in matters involving title, leasing, transactions, financing, and compliance with state and local government requirements. She represents mining companies in transactions, access issues, joint ventures, and other exploration and project development matters; and prepares title reports on state and federal mining claims. Oil and gas companies rely upon her to prepare title opinions and assist with asset transactions, surface use and access issues, pipeline rights-of-way, financing transactions, matters arising under unit agreements and joint operating agreements, and compliance with Alaska’s unique oil and gas regulations.
