Portland, Ore. Stoel Rives LLP is pleased to announce that partner Eric L. Martin has been elected a trustee-at-large for the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation (RMMLF). Martin is the immediate past chair of the RMMLF’s Young Professionals Committee and presented on federal roadblocks to local government efforts to stymie fossil fuel transportation at the RMMLF’s Annual Institute earlier this month. He joins firm partner Ramona L. Monroe as a trustee.

The RMMLF, which was founded in 1955, is a collaborative, educational, non-profit organization dedicated to the scholarly and practical study of the laws and regulations relating to mining, oil and gas, public lands, energy, water and other related areas. RMMLF offers educational resources that include institutes, short courses and workshops; publications; and its online Digital Library. It provides grants to law schools and faculty, and scholarships for qualified law students. RMMLF is led by a Board of Directors and guided by a Trustees Council that includes representatives from 32 law schools, 13 bar associations, and 19 mining and oil and gas associations.

Martin focuses on natural resource development with an emphasis on property issues and transactions in the oil and gas (upstream and midstream) and mining industries. He helps clients buy, lease and sell subsurface natural resources; obtain financing; permit projects on federal, state and local levels; and resolve disputes. Martin has handled transactional, development and operational issues for a variety of projects on both private and public lands, including mining ventures for precious and base metals, industrial minerals and construction materials; natural gas pipelines and underground storage facilities; oil and natural gas exploration and production projects; and geologic carbon sequestration projects.
