Experienced environmental and mining attorneys join Stoel Rives’ Environmental, Land Use & Natural Resources group in Minneapolis as partners.

MINNEAPOLIS (September 2017) Stoel Rives LLP is pleased to welcome Gregory A. Fontaine and Aleava R. Sayre to the firm’s Minneapolis office as partners in the Environmental, Land Use & Natural Resources group.

Fontaine’s practice focuses on mining, minerals, and other heavy industries. Fontaine has represented clients ranging from Fortune 50 businesses to individuals, and with over 30 years of legal experience, is well-known and well-regarded among business leaders in the mining and environmental law community. His clients benefit from his expertise in mining law, environmental review, permitting, project development, land use, and a broad range of transactional matters.

Sayre focuses her practice on the areas of environmental and mining law with an emphasis on environmental review and permitting associated with project development and litigation. As part of her mining and mineral management practice, she assists clients in all stages of mining: land and mineral rights, exploration, development, and operations. She is a leader in the Minnesota mineral and environmental law community, and with her background in public speaking, she is an effective advocate for her clients whether in the courtroom or the conference room.

Both Fontaine and Sayre come to Stoel Rives from Stinson Leonard Street, where they were partners and co-chairs of that firm’s mining practice. With decades of combined experience in mining and environmental law, the two attorneys have built a symbiotic practice that capitalizes on the strengths of each, to the benefit of their clients.

“Partnering with Stoel Rives' well-respected environmental, mining, and natural resources practice provides tremendous opportunities to better serve our existing clients, expand representation of those clients, and attract new clients,” said Fontaine.

Sayre said, “Our practices offer an in-depth, comprehensive expertise in mining while also providing our clients with exceptional support in the areas of environmental law and project development, more generally.”

With their high level of proficiency in mining and environmental law, both partners will be a welcome addition to Stoel Rives’ environmental and natural resources practices.

“Adding Aleava and Greg to the firm aligns perfectly with our strategic plans and enhances our existing strengths,” said Krista K. McIntyre, Stoel Rives’ Environmental, Land Use & Natural Resources group leader.

“One priority to which Stoel Rives is committed is to deepen and broaden our representation of natural resources clients, including those focused on mining,” said Robert A. Kukuljan, managing partner of the firm’s Minneapolis office.
