Leading commercial and securities litigation attorney joins Portland office from K&L Gates LLP

PORTLAND, Ore. - Stoel Rives LLP, an Am Law 200 and Oregon’s largest law firm, is pleased to announce that prominent commercial and securities litigation attorney B. “We are delighted to welcome John as a partner in Stoel Rives. He brings substantial litigation experience to our firm and has a keen understanding of business,” said Firm Managing Partner James E. Torgerson. “In today’s competitive business environment, our clients are confronted with the types of complex issues that John and our team focus on every day. His proactive approach to dispute resolution also complements our firm’s client value philosophy.”

Casey represents a variety of clients in industries including accounting, law, finance, public utilities, sports, consumer goods, technology, media and manufacturing. He has more than 15 years of litigation experience, having worked at K&L Gates LLP (Portland) and Latham & Watkins LLP (Chicago) handling complex commercial disputes. He focuses his legal practice on securities matters, fiduciary duty disputes, sports-related litigation (including lawsuits involving concussions and head trauma), consumer and employment class actions, and intellectual property. “I am excited to have John on the litigation team at Stoel Rives,” said Timothy W. Snider, chair of Stoel Rives’ litigation practice group. “I’ve known John for a long time, and I know that he will continue providing the highest value for our clients. His litigation experience and skill in the courtroom bolster this practice group’s reputation as Portland’s leading litigation team.”

“I joined Stoel Rives because the firm’s lawyers are outstanding,” said Casey. “The advocacy is fierce, but always thoughtful and fair. It is both a ‘full service’ firm that works with clients across the country, and a Pacific Northwest institution. I can’t imagine a better place to practice law.”

Admitted to practice in Oregon and Illinois, Casey received his bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University and his juris doctor degree from the University of Chicago Law School with honors. He is chair of the Business Litigation Section of the Oregon State Bar and chair-elect of the Securities Regulation Section.
