2L Summer Associates: Our Summer Associate Program is an integral part of our First-Year Associate hiring process. Our goal is to find highly motivated individuals with excellent academics who share in our commitment to our communities and who are committed to practicing in the regions where we have offices. Law review, work experience, and student activities are important, as well as demonstrated leadership ability, intellectual curiosity, and professionalism.

Summer Associates will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of assignments, from drafting transactional documents, writing legal research memos, drafting significant portions of briefs, to framing discovery requests, and learning the mechanics of closing deals. Additionally, summer associates will have the opportunity to collaborate on pro bono projects and work on business development initiatives. We offer formal training as well as community service opportunities and social activities. Each summer all of our summer associates gather in Portland for a two day Symposium to learn more about the Firm and to meet their colleagues and attorneys from other offices in a relaxed and fun environment.

For all of our offices that host summer programs, we generally look for summer associates interested in a variety of our practice areas. In addition, the Portland, Seattle, and Salt Lake City offices will also seek 2L patent summer associates for 2019. We will consider candidates with an interest in intellectual property who have a background or undergraduate degree in electrical, mechanical, or computer science engineering. Specifically for Seattle and Salt Lake City, we are also looking for candidates with biochemistry or chemistry backgrounds.

2L Diversity Fellowship: Stoel Rives is committed to fostering diversity within our firm and our communities. To further this goal, we are proud to offer a 2L Diversity Fellowship in our Portland, Oregon office. The Fellow will receive a paid 2L summer associate position and a $10,000 tuition scholarship for the 2019 academic year.
