Looking for a taste of a real world legal career? 

We have the program for you. Our summer program represents an important part of our hiring process, so expect to be immersed in our culture and in the reality of law practice at Stoel Rives. We expect summer associates to perform excellent work and to experience the reality of associate life at Stoel Rives. The work is real, relevant and challenging and will allow you to work alongside some of the best lawyers in their fields. Summer associates receive work assignments drawn from ongoing legal matters in which our lawyers and clients are actively involved. We also make every effort to see that you are invited to meetings, hearings, closings, depositions, trials, in-house CLEs and training programs. Your summer will be filled with challenging legal work, plus social and professional opportunities to interact with our attorneys. After a summer in one of our offices you will have a true sense of what life is like for Stoel Rives associates.

Mentorship Approach

Will you receive guidance? Yes! Our summer associates receive careful, constructive feedback on the quality of their work. In addition to the feedback that attorneys provide in connection with the summer associates’ legal work, each summer associate is matched with an associate mentor and a partner coach. These mentors and coaches help summer associates understand the nuances and challenges of our practice, offer advice on how to take advantage of the resources and opportunities our firm has to offer, and provide guidance throughout the summer.

We want you to get to know us while you’re here. A wide range of social events and training programs are coordinated by the recruiting and professional development department to provide opportunities for summer associates to get acquainted with our lawyers and to have the opportunity to make friends. You’ll work hard at Stoel Rives, and you’ll experience a balance of strong work ethic and fun camaraderie at the office.

Application Process

We recruit for our summer program through both fall On-Campus Interview Programs and our online application process. During our fall on-campus recruitment period, we interview second-year students at over 10 law schools and job fairs across the country to fill our summer associate positions.
