Client Brookfield Asset Management's sale of Longview Timber to Weyerhaeuser Company for $2.65 billion was featured recently as the "Deal of the Month" by Finance Monthly Magazine. The deal, which we first announced in June, involved transfer of approximately 645,000 acres of high-quality timberlands in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. Stoel Rives served as principal legal advisor for Brookfield in the deal.

Lead deal attorneys C.J. Voss, Greg Corbin and Alan Merkle described in the Finance Monthly feature how the magnitude of the deal presented a unique set of due diligence challenges. "With thousands of acres of timberlands spread across 25 counties in Washington and Oregon, we had to devise a streamlined process for providing the buyer with necessary information regarding the state of title to the asset in a very short period of time," Corbin noted.

"We are very pleased to have helped Brookfield and its investors achieve excellent returns on their investment," added Voss. "It was a case of hard work pays off. We were privileged to work with Brookfield throughout as it acquired, reorganized and restructured the original ownership entity. The subsequent purchase by Weyerhaeuser, an icon in the forest products business, confirms the tremendous business value our client brought to these assets."
