2012 Summer Associates

Anchorage

Molly Barker
Molly has completed her second year at Northeastern University School of Law. She graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Environmental Studies and International Affairs. Most recently, Molly worked as a legal intern for State Senator Katherine Clark at the General Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, where she also served on the House Committee on Global Warming and Climate Change. In her free time, Molly enjoys cross-country running, triathlons, hiking, and camping.

Portland

Steven Barnett
Steven has completed his first year at the University of Michigan Law School, where he is a treasury committee member of the Black Law Students Alliance and a member of the Education Law and Policy Society. He graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Philosophy from St. Louis University. Prior to law school, Steven worked as a teacher’s assistant for the St. Louis Public School District and taught freshman and sophomore writing and algebra. In his free time, Steven enjoys community gardening, hiking, and bowling.

Karl Meier
Karl has completed his second year at Lewis & Clark Law School. Prior to law school, he worked as a hardware engineer for several years, but most recently he worked at Alleman Hall McCoy Russell & Tuttle as a law clerk and technical consultant. Karl graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wyoming and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado. In his spare time, Karl enjoys running, hiking, golfing, and cooking ethnic cuisines.

Marc Therrien
Marc has completed his second year at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law, where he is an editor of Utah Law Review. He is also studying for an M.B.A. at the University of Utah, and is an ambassador for the M.B.A. program and an active member of the Downtown Salt Lake City Rotary Club. He graduated with a B.A. in Politics and Economics from Willamette University and the London School of Economics in England. After college, he spent three years working as a commercial real estate broker, specializing in investment and multi-family properties. His years as a broker were split by a year and a half in South America. He served one full year as a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholar in Valparaiso, Chile, where he was a full-time student and an “ambassador of goodwill and peace” working on community development and culture sharing projects. Last year, Marc was a summer associate at Boise Inc., Office of the General Counsel in Boise, Idaho. Prior to that, he was a judicial intern for the Supreme Court of Utah. In his spare time, Marc enjoys snow skiing, mountain biking, adventure travel, live jazz, and reading.

Adrienne Thompson
Adrienne has completed her second year at Lewis & Clark Law School, where she is a member of Environmental Law and a recipient of Outstanding Oral Advocate of 2011. Last summer she worked as a summer law clerk for Oregon Law Center, and most recently she was a teaching assistant at Lewis & Clark Law School. Since graduating magna cum laude from Walla Walla University with a B.A. in Mass Communication and Spanish, she has traveled and lived throughout Western Europe and Eastern Asia. In her spare time, Adrienne enjoys working on videography and graphic design projects, backpacking, cycling, and practicing her Chinese and Spanish speaking skills with local language partners.

Sacramento

Katherine Fowler
Katherine has completed her first year at the University of California, Davis, School of Law, where she is a member of the Business Law Journal and the Black Law Student Association. She received a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Montana and spent a semester at the University of Guanajuato, Mexico. For the last few years, Katherine has worked for Opening Doors, Inc., first as an Intern for the Anti-Human Trafficking Program and later as a Refugee Resettlement Program Associate. In her spare time, Katherine enjoys culinary experimentation and white water rafting.

Seattle

Kiran Griffith
Kiran returns to the firm after completing her second year at Seattle University School of Law, where she serves on the Law Review’s Editorial Board as the Lead Article Editor. Kiran graduated with high honors from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. in Government. Prior to law school, she worked as a senior compliance manager at a research firm, resolving compliance concerns with potential legal and business implications. In her spare time, Kiran enjoys reading, tennis, and exploring the Northwest.

Daniel Lee
Daniel has completed his second year at Seattle University School of Law, where he serves on the Law Review as Editor in Chief and participates in the Asia Pacific Islander Law Students Association. After graduating with a B.A. in English from Stanford University, he managed a small music business and taught preschoolers. Last summer, he worked as a summer associate at Perkins Coie in Bellevue, Washington. Daniel enjoys playing the guitar and running.

Susan Luo
Susie has completed her first year at Cornell University Law School, where she is a member of the Women’s Law Coalition and a volunteer for Public Interest Cabaret. She graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to law school, she spent her summers as a congressional intern, a civil rights intern at an anti-discrimination non-profit, and an English teacher with a non-profit organization in Hong Kong, China. In her spare time, Susie loves to read, experience the outdoors, travel with friends, and volunteer with children.

Alyson Palmer
Alyson returns to the firm after completing her second year at the University of Washington School of Law, where she serves on the Black Law Students Association, the Education Law and Policy Society, and the Moot Court. She graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Political Science from Seattle University. Prior to law school, Alyson worked on the Obama campaign and was a deputy regional field director in Indianapolis during general elections. She then went on to work in the White House, supporting the work of President Obama and the new Administration. In her free time, Alyson enjoys eating out with friends, the outdoors, hiking, and tennis.

Salt Lake City

Emily Petersen
Emily has completed her first year at Brigham Young University's J. Reuben Clark Law School. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering. Prior to law school, she worked on the Phalanx at Raytheon Missile Systems and in ExxonMobil's technical marketing department. In her spare time, Emily enjoys traveling, camping, and exploring languages and cultures.

Samira Torshizi
Samira has completed her second year at Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School, where she is the associate editor of the BYU International Law & Management Review. She graduated from UCLA with a B.A. in Philosophy. In the summer of 2011, Samira worked as an intern for both the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco and Arent Fox, LLP in Washington, D.C. Prior to attending law school, Samira was a legal secretary for the Porter Scott Law Firm in Sacramento. In her spare time, Samira enjoys hiking, running, teaching spin classes, and spending time with family.

Rex Watkins
Rex has completed his second year at Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School, where he is the senior editor for the BYU Law Review. He graduated from Utah State University with a B.S. in Chemistry and from the University of Wisconsin–Madison with a Ph.D. in Biochemistry. Following his first year of law school, Rex worked as an intern for Chief Judge Randall R. Rader of the Federal Circuit. In his spare time, Rex enjoys basketball, tennis, geocaching, reading, and spending time with his wife and two children.
