Winners Announced in the 2008 Utah Innovation Awards

SALT LAKE CITY - Eight technology innovations and the Utah companies that created them were announced as winners in the sixth annual Utah Innovation Awards program, presented by Stoel Rives LLP and the Utah Technology Council. This statewide program, the first of its kind, is designed to recognize innovations and the Utah companies that created them, and is sponsored by Avalanche Studios, Business Connect magazine and USTAR. Winners were announced during a special Awards Luncheon today at the Marriott City Center.
A committee of nearly 60 experts from private industry, government and higher education selected the award winners, one in each of the program’s eight categories. Votes were independently tallied by the accounting firm KPMG. The table below identifies the winners in each category:

"The high level of quality and innovativeness exhibited in this year's nominees is a strong indication that Utah’s technology industry continues to thrive,” said Richard Nelson, Utah Technology Council President and CEO. "Receiving recognition in this awards program is an esteemed honor given the program’s rigorous evaluation process. The nearly 100 nominations were scrutinized by a selection committee of more than 60 individuals, all of whom have experience or a particular expertise with one of the program’s areas of technology." The program also benefits from the oversight of a Steering Committee consisting of leaders from Utah’s business and technology communities.
More than 300 individuals attended the Awards Luncheon at the Marriott City Center. Governor Jon M. Huntsman Jr. provided welcoming remarks and Dr. Chris Johnson, Director Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute, Co-Director, NIH Center for Integrative Biomedical Computing, and Distinguished Professor of Computer Science at the University of Utah, delivered a keynote address.
