PORTLAND- Stoel Rives LLP, a leading U.S. full-service business law firm, is honored to announce that four of the firm's offices and 61 of its attorneys are favorably ranked in the new edition of Chambers USA: Guide to America's Leading Lawyers for Business.

The highly regarded Chambers USA guide ranks Stoel Rives attorneys in seven areas of law: corporate/commercial, corporate/mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, labor and employment, litigation, environmental and natural resources, and real estate. Stoel Rives earned category rankings in four states where the firm has offices. The firm received the highest possible ranking in several categories, noted as "first tier" below.

Oregon: Corporate/M&A (first tier), Environment (first tier), Labor & Employment, Commercial Litigation (first tier), Real Estate

Chambers USA calls Stoel Rives "[t]he clear leader in Oregon's corporate law market.... Even rivals admitted: 'As hard as it is to say it, Stoel Rives is top when it comes to bench strength and clientele,' while clients called it 'the premier law firm in the region.' The largest firm in Oregon, it deals with most of the major deals coming into the state."

Stoel Rives' Oregon office also won praise for its environmental and natural resources practice: "This principal player excels in scope from creative solutions to environmental issues.... Attorneys take pleasure in helping companies develop environmental strategies, thinking outside a purely legal framework to provide 'workable business solutions.' The team is 'candid, ethical and honest as well as extremely skilled at what it does' and this approach has led to a busy year."

The firm's litigation practice group in Oregon is "claiming an increasingly high percentage of complex and high-stakes litigation" and is "[h]ighly regarded by peers and clients alike.... Clients come from across the Pacific Northwest for its full-service work that includes distribution, licensing, antitrust, technology and real estate matters."

Washington: Corporate/Commercial, Environment (first tier), Labor & Employment, Commercial Litigation, Real Estate.

The guide reports that Stoel Rives' top-ranked environmental and natural resources practice group in Washington State "is a major environmental player... and interviewees stated that no other Pacific West firm can touch it on a number of niche areas. The team handles permitting and approvals and the consequent litigation that often spins out of this work. It is also highly esteemed for its work on the Endangered Species Act and on Superfund cleanup projects."

In addition, the Washington office won "acclaim for its robust traditional labor practice and prowess in the wage and hour area, where it has been active on the legislative front. Clients were happy to sing the firm's praises, enthusing that the team provides 'reliable advice and responsive service.'"

 • Utah: Corporate/M&A, Intellectual Property, Labor & Employment, Commercial Litigation, Real Estate (first tier).

In Utah, according to Chambers USA, Stoel Rives' first-tier real estate practice has "'leapfrogged' local firms in terms of strength in this area. According to one client: 'The partnership is very strong. I've found them to be particularly thorough and very meticulous with regard to detail.' One competitor credited the team as 'definitely a force to be reckoned with.'"

Also notable is the Utah office's high ranking in intellectual property law. This is the first year that Chambers USA has ranked intellectual property law practices in Utah.

 • Idaho: Corporate/Commercial (first tier), Labor & Employment (first tier), Commercial Litigation (first tier), Natural Resources & Environment (first tier), Real Estate.

Stoel Rives' Idaho office earned top marks in four categories. The corporate/commercial practice is praised as building on the firm's "strong reputation for business law in the Western USA" and "'rais[ing] the bar in Idaho.'"

The firm's labor and employment practice group in Idaho is a "significant regional player" that "covers a wide range of employment law" and "impresses clients who want 'practical solutions, not an overkill approach.'"

In the commercial litigation arena, Chambers USA states that Stoel Rives' Idaho office "has not shied away from large complex cases.... Interviewees noted the group's 'creativity and technical accuracy' and its collaborative, non-obstructionist approach."

Finally, the firm's Idaho environmental and natural resources "team has access to a network of lawyers in five states and represents clients from small local companies to large multinationals. Attorneys work in specialized teams on areas such as air quality, land use, renewable energy, mining and environmental insurance claims."

Chambers USA is an annual guide to the leading business lawyers and law firms in the United States, compiled and released by respected international legal publisher Chambers & Partners. The rankings are based on extensive independent research, including detailed interviews with key in-house counsel and other attorneys throughout the United States.

The 61 Stoel Rives attorneys included in the new Chambers USA are listed below, along with the area of law for which each was selected.
