Proposed Investment Tax Credits Could Boost U.S. Wind-Power Industry
2/12/2009
Stoel Rives member Greg Jenner commented in the Wall Street Journal on the potential impact of the federal stimulus bill on U.S. wind-power development. According to the CEO of Vestas Wind Systems, a Danish wind-power producer, the U.S. market for new wind generation "basically collapsed" in September 2008 after credit markets froze in the wake of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc.'s dissolution.
Jenner, a corporate tax attorney, said the wind-power industry could receive a boost via an investment tax credit currently being debated by Congress. The proposed credits would be provided upfront instead of over a number of years. Jenner said the House version of the stimulus package would go even further, allowing wind developers to exchange their investment tax credits for grant money.
"Vestas CEO: Rebound in US Wind Power Key for '09" was published by the Wall Street Journal on February 12, 2009.
