About Our Speakers:
Steven Rowe is the Senior Vice President of the Northwest Dairy Association, the fourth largest agricultural cooperative in the country, with over 500 dairy farmer owner/members throughout the northwest. He is also the General Counsel for the cooperative's wholly owned subsidiary, Darigold, Inc. Darigold is one of the largest privately held companies in the northwest with $2 billion in annual sales of consumer and ingredients dairy products. Prior to his time with Darigold, Steven's practical approach to sustainable business strategies earned him the opportunity to be the Assistant General Counsel and Senior Environmental Officer for Holcim, Inc.—a world leader in the manufacture of cement and charter member of both the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and the Pew Center on Global Climate Change. He was also a partner at the Seattle based law firm of Preston Gates & Ellis and Vice Chair of the Bainbridge Graduate Institute, an MBA program rooted in sustainable business practices. Steven has long been an active participant in the sustainability arena with many years of experience as in-house counsel and in private practice. He has been advising clients on environmental compliance and value-added, sustainable business strategies for nearly 25 years. He holds a bachelor's degree in natural resources from the University of Michigan and a law degree from the University of Utah.
Monica Gelinas is Karp Resources' Senior Consultant and former Head of Marketing, Supply Chain and Product Development at Pret A Manger, building its product integrity and merchandising efforts. She has more than 10 years of experience in the hospitality and consumer retail industry, focusing in global for-profit and non-governmental business development. Monica gained hands-on experience in 2000 when Karp Resources launched Pret A Manger, the all-natural British food company, in the United States. Her breadth of knowledge spans product development, branding, merchandising and strategic supply chains while working with regional farmers, domestic manufacturers and multi-national corporations. Monica received her bachelor's degree from Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration and is an active alumni member. She received her master's degree from New York University's Global Affairs program with a thesis on green hotel development. She enjoys making homemade Chinese dumplings with her family and knows something about fortune cookie production.
Duff Bryant is a member at Stoel Rives LLP practicing in the Corporate group. He focuses on significant business transactions for companies in a wide range of industries and at various stages of growth. Duff chairs the firm's Mergers and Acquisitions practice group and has significant experience in domestic and international mergers and acquisitions, and joint ventures. He has also advised and assisted numerous clients in forming, capitalizing and maintaining domestic and foreign entities. Duff also has extensive experience in secured and unsecured financings. He has been named a "Rising Star" by Washington Law & Politics and was included in Chambers USA's America's Leading Lawyers for Business (2006 to present). Duff earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Washington and his law degree from the University of Oregon School of Law. He is admitted to the state bar of Washington.
Joel Dahlgren is a member of Stoel Rives LLP's Corporate group. He works with cooperative and agribusiness clients on a wide range of general corporate matters. Joel takes a proactive approach with his clients, tracking trends and legal developments of particular interest to agricultural producers and members of the cooperative community. He regularly provides advice to farmers and cooperatives on such issues as formation and dissolution, loan financing, debtor/creditor, annual meeting, unification and employment. In his law practice, Joel draws extensively on his pre-law business experience as a loan officer at the Saint Paul Bank for Cooperatives and as a representative of the Cenex/Land O'Lakes joint venture. Joel received his bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota, cum laude, and his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School. He is admitted to the state bars of Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota and Wisconsin.
