Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez And Other Celebs Helped Louboutin Get Trademark For Red Soles

Christian Louboutin has a monopoly on high fashion red soled shoes in the U.S. Among those who the French fashion designer has to thank are: Kate White (the outgoing Editor-in-Chief of Cosmopolitan), Jennifer Lopez, Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow, Lady Gaga, and a gaggle of other prominent celebrities. Who knew that their obsession with what a federal court has called his "Chinese red lacquered shoe sole" would help Louboutin get a trademark for it?

The Second Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals found, shortly before the start of New York's Fashion Week, that Louboutin had the exclusive right to use that "look" on shoes in the United States. In its Sept. 5 decision, the court said that look was a "trademark" of Louboutin.
