Wide-Ranging and Nationally Rated Construction Law Services
Our firm works with owners, developers, contractors, architects, engineers, subcontractors, construction managers and suppliers across the construction and design industry. We have worked on public and private construction projects throughout North America and abroad, including major public works, infrastructure projects, power and fuel generating facilities, industrial projects, office towers, hotels, resorts and shopping malls, and all types of residential development.
Our work has drawn praise from both peers and clients. The U.S. News – Best Lawyers® "Best Law Firms" client and peer review survey currently rates Stoel Rives National Tier 1 for Construction Law, making us one of only 17 law firms nationwide to receive this ranking since the survey's inception. In addition, the 2013 survey gave Metropolitan area rankings to our Construction Law and Construction Litigation practices in Portland, Seattle, Sacramento and Utah.
Transactional and Litigation Experience
Some firms consider themselves transaction specialists. Others focus on litigation. Stoel Rives specializes in both. On the transaction side, we are highly experienced in drafting and negotiating a variety of specialized documents related to design and construction, including construction and design prime contracts, bid documents, consulting agreements, joint venture agreements, purchase orders, subcontracts, bonds and others. We promote a preventative philosophy in our transactional work, focused on anticipating and heading off potential areas of dispute or unexpected changes.
Meanwhile, we have deep experience in all types of construction-related disputes, including claims for changed work, defective work, differing site conditions and delays. We also have extensive experience in filing, prosecuting and defending lien/bond claims and in bid protests and other public contracting disputes.
We believe that our transactional and litigation practices are two sides of the same coin, and our experience in both allows us to better serve our clients.
Connected and Engaged
Keeping our clients and other industry participants informed about relevant construction law developments is another priority for us. Through our Ahead of Schedule blog, client "Alerts," client seminars, speaking engagements and frequent writing in industry publications, we strive to express our passion for construction law issues while keeping you ahead of the learning curve.
We maintain active memberships in a variety of construction-related industry associations. Examples include the Associated General Contractors of America, Inc., Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc., the National Asphalt Pavement Association, the American Institute of Architects and the Construction Specifications Institute. Our attorneys are also deeply involved in legislative activities impacting the construction and design industry, including recent changes to construction defect-related statutes and public contracting statutes.
