Stoel Rives Senior Energy Partner Ed Einowski was quoted in Windpower Engineering & Development in an article titled “Life in the wind industry as the PTC phases out and new markets phase in,” published August 24, 2017. In a wide-ranging conversation at the AWEA Windpower 2017 conference, Einowski discussed how the wind industry will fare as the federal Production Tax Credit (PTC) ramps down to its eventual phase out in 2020 and how it can remain competitive.

Einowski was also quoted in Wind Systems in an article titled “MARKET OUTLOOK: Wind Boom to Continue,” published August 2017. The article discusses the wind industries’ prospects for 2017, in which strong growth is expected to continue, driven by developers who are accelerating wind projects in order to take advantage of PTC subsidies before they are reduced.

Even as the PTC is phased out, states are expected to pick up some of the slack by providing subsidies for wind-project development through their own RPS requirements, which many states are raising in response to the federal government’s withdrawal from the Paris Climate agreement and elimination of the Clean Power Plan.

Businesses are also increasingly interested in using renewable energy for their energy needs, prompting healthy U.S. investment in wind energy.

“There is currently a great deal more investment money seeking wind projects than there are wind projects available,” Einowski said.
