Stoel Rives LLP congratulates its client General Energy Solutions USA, Inc., on the inauguration of the Munisol Solar Project in the city of Hermosillo in Sonora, Mexico. The project, which was constructed by Cenergy Power, cost approximately $45 million.
The 22 MW, 68,000-panel solar photovoltaic farm covers 50 hectares and is the first in Mexico that was privately developed and financed. The farm has the potential to be expanded to provide 80 MW of electricity. The primary end users of the solar power are Ford Motor Company and the cities of Hermosillo and Empalme.
The Stoel Rives deal team, which included Morten Lund, J. Anthony Girolami and Brian Orion, provided representation for GES in project development, acquisition and financing.
In April, Lund, Girolami and Orion traveled to Hermosillo for the opening ceremony of the solar farm.
The opening ceremony was chaired by the governor of Sonora, Claudia Pavlovich Arellano, who in her remarks acknowledged the confidence of private investors in bringing this type of project to Sonora to provide renewable energy for the present and future benefit of Sonorans.
Angelina Muñoz Fernández, the municipal president of Hermosillo, said in her remarks that the new electricity source will allow the city to save 35 percent on the energy consumed by the public lighting agency in the city.
