Press Release

Portland’s largest law firm organizes corporate challenge to support capital campaign
for homeless shelter in Lents neighborhood

PORTLAND, Ore. – Attorneys and staff from Stoel Rives have raised nearly $125,000 to support Portland Homeless Family Solutions’ Families First Campaign. The money will go directly towards a down payment for a new family shelter in the Lents neighborhood of Portland. The purchase of the building enables PHFS to triple their services and shelter capacity for children and parents who are experiencing homelessness in Portland.

“A long-time supporter of PHFS, Stoel Rives has gone above and beyond this time in support of our Families First Campaign,” said Brandi Tuck, Portland Homeless Family Solutions Executive Director. “This project would not have been possible without the tremendous leadership and support from Stoel Rives. Thank you for stepping up and helping homeless families with children in our community.”

Led by Stoel Rives special counsel Mark Morford and partners Michael Campbell, Kirk Maag, and Geoffrey Tichenor, employees across the entire firm, from the mailroom to the Firm Managing Partner, contributed individual donations to the campaign. The firm also challenged other corporations in Portland to match its donation, resulting in an additional $136,000 from The Standard, PGE, NW Natural, Moss Adams, and EPB&B Insurance.

“Partnering with PHFS on this project was an honor. PHFS has a proven track record of success addressing our community’s acute problem of family homelessness,” said Tichenor. “Stoel Rives is proud to support PHFS and to do our bit to grow PHFS’s capacity to help families with kids. It is also moving to see many other leading Portland businesses join this effort.”

PHFS currently operates three downtown shelters for families and has a long track record of success. Its mission is to empower homeless families with children to move back into housing, and stay there.  For more information on the corporate challenge or Portland Homeless Family Solutions, please contact Capital Campaign Director Jean McGowan at Jean@pdxhfs.org or call 971.409.4453.
